  1. Wow, what d’ya know? After looking at the screenshot, I noticed that the Standard Fields list is just way too long. I should’ve made it a listbox, just like the Assigned Categories. (What was I thinking??) I’ll be posting more screenshots, then.

  2. This plugin is *such* a good idea. I produced a site for someone last year which required this sort of thing and I ended up ripping the admin pages apart to do it. Keep up the good work! Any ideas for a release date yet?

  3. I’ve just downloaded the latest version (@Jake, go to http://dev.wp-plugins.org/browser/custom-write-panel/trunk click on each file in turn and download the source file, stick in a directory named rc-custom-write-panel and stick that in your plugins directory and activate as usual).

The admin side of things works fine for me other than the top of every page has “Array() before the header, but clicking on Manage > “custom write panel name” but that just results in a new page with the standard WP Admin head and foot navigation sans any content. Running WordPress 2.1.2 (yet to update, , could this be the problem?), tried deactivating all the other plugins, same result.

Anyway, it’s shaping up really nicely, looking forward to rolling it into production!

  4. Chris,

It’s not really ready to be tested yet and, at this point, I don’t care if it’s not working on your blog.

  5. Joshua, are you happy for me/us to download and look at the work-in-progress? Are you interested in any feedback (bugs, display issues, usability issues, etc.) while you’re developing?

I produce a lot of WordPress based websites for charities and similar organisations with very non-technical users. The custom field plugin has already made a significant difference on a couple of websites and this plugin looks like it could be a massive improvement with respect to usability for these sorts of users.

So, if I/we can help with some qualitative feedback (or anything else for that matter), please email.

To be honest, I prefer a list of checkboxes to the current listbox solution.

Maybe you can format the checkboxes in two columns, or sections: One for those standard fields that are usually in the main column of WP “Write post” page, and another for the fields that are usually in the sidebar. This way, it will be easier to know which checkboxes to tick.
